Don't worry! It's normal for new rugs to shed yarn fibres.
Depending on the weave type of your area rug and where it is being used, it may continue to shed over the span of its lifetime.
Proper and regular vacuuming will help pick up rug fibres and keep the rug looking fresh and clean.
Vacuum regularly. Do not use a beater bar attachment. If you cannot remove the beater bar, raise it as high as possible and vacuum carefully. When vacuuming, use the lowest available setting to prevent fibres from being pulled out of the rug backing. Sprouts that appear on the surface of the rug should be snipped at level. Do not pull the fibre out. If you own a natural fibre rug, be sure to vacuum the area underneath the rug periodically. Spills should be cleaned immediately using a clean white cloth. Avoid rubbing, as this may push the stain deeper into the rug. To promote even wear of the rug surface, rotate regularly. Avoid exposing rugs to continuous direct sunlight. This will cause colors to fade over time.
The images we display have the most accurate colours possible. Please keep in mind that colour variances may occur with handmade items; remember, these pieces are unique and made by local artisans!
In some instances, patterns may vary according to size as well.
Floor area rugs and mats almost always come in a select few sizes depending on the range. Generally these are rectangular in shape, but sometimes round rugs and runner variants are available. Here we have provided the most common sizes and where they may be used:
80x150cm – Larger than average sized mats and commonly used in larger entrances or kitchens.
120x170cm – These are where a mat becomes a rug, and are used in wide entrances and under small coffee tables or computer chairs.
160x230cm – These are the most popular size and are often used for family areas. You will also find the greatest selection of designs and colours in this size.
200x290cm – Very similar to the size above, these are slightly larger and used in larger living rooms and under dining tables to cover more areas.
240x320cm – These are not as common, and as such there is usually a much more limited amount of styles and colours to choose from. Ideal for covering most of the family or lounge area.
300x400cm – These are a very uncommon size and many don’t stock them due to price and the space required to display such a big rug. Often used under dining tables to allow the chairs to remain on the rug when pulled back.
When referring to the quality of a rug based on density, the lowest quality would be given to a Standard Fibre rug. This is generally because they have an average density of 100,000-250,000 points of fibre per square meter, which is on the lower end of the scale. Below we have provided a list of which quality has which average density so as to help you compare;
Most 'Low' quality rugs have around 250,000 points of fibre per square meter.
'Low' to 'Medium' quality rugs usually have around 250,000-400,000 points of fibre per square meter.
'Medium' to 'Good' quality is usually around 400,000-600,000 points of fibre per square meter.
'Good' to 'High' quality rugs often have around 600,000-800,000 points of fibre per square meter.
'High' quality rugs generally have around 800,000-1,000,000 points of fibre per square meter.
'Very High' quality rugs have 1.000,000-2,000,000 points of fibre per square meter, and very rarely more.
